Last week has been a special week for a close friend of Crowe Performance, and this time around we are not talking about a racing related achievement.

The team at Crowe Performance wants to congratulate our friend Chrissy Rouse on his recent graduation.  One could think he studied motorsport management or maybe mechanical engineering ... well no, Chrissy studied, and now has a degree, in Mathematics (!).  Yes maths, that subject that many of us - even at basic level - dreaded and barely managed to scrape through at school.

Most people would wonder what triggered Chrissy’s interest in science.  We have a theory which is that his obsession with speed drove him towards Physics, moving to Maths later on.  We can picture Chrissy riding his bicycle to high school as fast as he could and with a little sticker on the handlebar with a written formula that he was trying to beat or perhaps prove he could re-write it one day (Speed = Distance/Time).  Seeing Chrissy’s determination and commitment when he races it looks as if even today he is still trying to be faster than the speed formula itself.

Joking aside, our congratulations to Chrissy for this important milestone.  We should say that admiration is also deserved.   Apart from the fact that a Maths degree is not a walk in the park, he managed it while having a job (at times two), giving private maths tuition after working hours, and of course during many weekends of the year go racing at top level.  In other words, come rest time (weekend) after a gruelling week and he goes and 'chill out’ - that is racing a motorcycle in competition at 190mph, as one does of course.

We have known Chrissy for a number of years thanks to the fact that Crowe Performance has the privilege, to work with a few racing BSB teams. We are proud to be involved with some of those great teams and mechanics.  Working on Chrissy’s bikes is one of those cases in which his results will make everyone involved look good.

Before wrapping this up we cannot resist touching briefly on Chrissy’s latest racing achievements. About a month ago, Chrissy moved up from Superstock to Superbike.  So far he raced on only two race meetings on a superbike machine that was totally new to him - even different manufacturer. Straight out of the gates, without even testing the bike beforehand, he managed to qualify for Q2 (i.e. top 18) right away.  Not only that, he surprised everyone even more when this past weekend at Brands Hatch Superbike races he finished 11th and 14th ahead of some very talented and experienced riders and established teams.  Truly remarkable results in any context but even more impressive considering that he is a rookie in the Superbike division. No doubt there is a lot more to come from Chrissy and probably sooner than anyone would expect.

And there is another prediction we dare to make ... in one particular school in Newcastle, Maths will soon become the most popular subject among its students. We can bet on that.
